Alien Bounty Sam McCade Book 3 eBook William C Dietz

This was very good since the writer went off the normal story line and into the history and culture of the alien's. The testing and trails of McCade made the book different that just the normal kill or be killed. The other twist was the assignment of persons the reader would have thought of as being on the side of the good guys turned out to be on the bad side andf then the good side. Very interesting reading.

Alien Bounty Sam McCade Book 3 eBook William C Dietz Reviews

This well-written tale is full of twists and turns. A good read. It shows the plus side of working together despite differences.
Another well composed plot filled with honorable characters. This whole series is well done and a joy to read. Yay!
We open with a prison scene and a prison rescue all in chapter one, which itself could be a stand-alone short story. This form is used throughout the book. Sam McCade has a bunch of adventures he easily survives with a slightly cynical perspective, but I received little sense of the 'novel' form. The stories themselves are self contained and do move the 'retrieve the ancient alien artifact' plot along, though in some chapters the main plot isn't even mentioned. Still they way the novel is written, chapter-stories have their moments (such as the strategy game vs. the 10 year old Il-ron girl), but others aren't interesting (the adrift in space scenes, and 'gark breath'). Overall I found the book struggling to simply be a book, and I didn't like the whole. Even the final chapter has an abrupt end, but maybe the next book in the series handles the transition well?

As a final criticism, I found the aliens in the story didn't act alien. This annoyed me as the author goes out of their way to make a point regarding cyborgs in the late novel, and the point lost it's entire dramatic impact because the aliens weren't actually alien (enough).
The beginning of the book establishes it as a light action adventure tale. About the only drawback (minor) is that it's part of a series, but the back story is covered decently enough.

While not great it does fairly well until about 60% of the way through. I guess the author lost interest? All the established characters get notably stupider, the plans are unworkably simple, new characters are interchangeable, and lots (oh so many) of handy coincidences...

A small note I might suggest if you are looking for crystal vial worth going to war over Blowing up every room, spaceship, person, airlock, and random items that get within range, might maybe run the risk of... Oh I don't know, BLOWING THE VIAL TO DUST?

The author in a couple spots (page 175 is one) seems to think planets and asteroids generate gravity due to spin. Not pseudo gravity in a Ringworld (centrifugal force) sense, but actual gravity. That took it from 2 to 1 star for me.

If it had stayed at about the level of the first few chapters, it'd be 4 star light reading, 3 star compared to my overall library.

Bottom line I got a signed copy, with a signed by the author sticker on the front, and it cost me $1, with no tax. That is about what it's worth.
I buy these for my husband whom loves science fiction and this author.
great
the story is pretty interesting but it ends suddenly as with all of the books. its hard to say you didn't expect it considering the thickness of the pages towards the end but it just kind of cuts off at the end. it certainly tells the story but in the regard of the sheer start and end of each book in the series its a little difficult to get into, in my opinion. certainly worth the read if you can dismiss the Shakespearean ends to arcs.
